What is RTLB?
Resource Teachers: Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) are registered and experienced teachers who work collaboratively with schools and teachers to improve educational outcomes for students in Years 0–10. As a culturally responsive service, RTLB bring specialised skills and expertise to support both students and their teachers. Their focus is on helping students reach their full potential in learning and behaviour while fostering inclusive education environments. By working closely with teachers, schools, and whānau, RTLB develop tailored interventions and provide guidance to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed. These free services are available through referrals made by the school.
The story of Haunui-a-Nanaia
The story of Haunui-a-Nanaia and the naming of Remutaka relates to RTLB through its themes of perspective, connection, and guidance. Just as Haunui climbed the mountain to gain a clear view and understanding of the land below, RTLBs take a step back to assess and understand the needs of students, teachers, and schools.
The mountain range represents a gateway—a link between two regions—which symbolises RTLBs’ role as facilitators of connection, helping students overcome barriers and bridging the gap between challenges and potential. By choosing the original name, the story acknowledges the importance of cultural heritage and perspective, much like RTLBs honour diversity and use culturally responsive practices to support learning and behaviour outcomes for all students.
