Wairarapatanga

We work together to ensure that all Whakaoriori ākonga are successful and achieve to their potential.

“Ko te manu e kai ana i te miro nōnā te ngahere. Engari ko te manu e kai ana i te mātauranga nōnā te ao.”

The one who partakes of the flora and fauna, that will be their domain. The one who engages in education, opportunities are boundless.

Wairarapatanga At Masterton Primary School

At Masterton Primary School, Wairarapatanga is at the heart of who we are. It represents the unique identity, culture, and connections that shape our school and community in the Wairarapa region.

Through Wairarapatanga, we honour the rich Māori heritage of Wairarapa, including the stories and traditions of Rangitāne o Wairarapa and Ngāti Kahungunu. We foster strong relationships between students, whānau, and local organisations, creating a supportive and connected learning environment. Our approach to learning is place-based, encouraging students to engage with their surroundings through cultural experiences, environmental initiatives, and an understanding of Wairarapa’s history and economy.

We embed te reo Māori and tikanga Māori into everyday learning, ensuring our tamariki develop a deep appreciation for the region’s cultural identity. By embracing Wairarapatanga, we nurture pride, belonging, and a strong sense of identity, empowering our students to grow as confident, connected, and culturally aware individuals.
