Wā Whānau Groups

What are Wa Whānau Groups?

At our school, Wa Whānau groups are a special initiative inspired by the nine Matariki stars. Running from Wednesday to Friday, these groups bring together students from different year levels (Years 1–6) into vertical groups, fostering a sense of whanaungatanga—connection and belonging—within our school.

By interacting with peers of various ages and teachers they might not usually engage with, students develop stronger relationships, creating a true whānau (family) atmosphere. This initiative helps students feel more connected to our school community, enriching their sense of belonging and enhancing their overall learning experience.
